 MOUNTAIN TREKS
Royal ecotravel organizes trips to various high peaks in East Africa including Mt. Kenya, Aberdares, Kilimanjaro, Meru, and Elgon. We take great pride in the high rate of success for summit ascents by our clients, which we largely attribute to our dedicated mountain crews who work hard towards achieving this goal regardless of the trekkers’ age or past high altitude hiking experience. Our safari cooks know the dietary requirement conducive to the high and wild places we venture to and our guides are well trained to manage wilderness emergencies.

Mt. Kenya

Established in 1949, Mt. Kenya National park covers an area of 588sq km, the boundary being the 3,364m contour. This is where you find Mt. Kenya, the highest mountain in the country and the second highest in Africa.  This is also the seat of Ngai, the god of the Kikuyu.  At 5199m, this massive stand has amazed most hikers being the only snow-caped mountain in the world that straddles the equator. The mountain is among the most beautiful volcanic mountains with eye-catching undulating and ewe-inspiring scenery. The gigantic peaks, picturesque valleys and crystal clear streams cascading from the glaciers which seem to meet at the major peaks add elegance to this majestic stand.

Mt. Kenya’s highest peaks, Batian (5199m) and Nelion (5188m) can only be reached by mountaineers with technical skills. However, Point Lenana (4985m), the third highest peak can be reached by trekkers and is the usual goal for most people, offering a fantastic experience without the risks of real climbing.

Mt. Kilimanjaro
Just over the border, in Tanzania, the square silhouette of Kilimanjaro marks the highest point of the Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world. It is referred to as the roof of Africa rising 5895m and easily accessed from Arusha (Tanzania). Every year thousands of visitors, inspired by the words of Karen Blixen, march towards the lethal screes and ice terraces of Kilimanjaro. Although the mountain is in Tanzania, Kenya receives the best view from Amboseli National Park. With its snow-capped peaks and breathtaking sceneries, this dome-shaped massive offers its hikers value for their money and effort. Its abundance in flora and fauna, with some of the rarest and most beautiful plant and animal species make this a special place for every hiker.  It is not a hard mountain to climb, although you must be prepared for a good test on your physical fitness. However, the sheer beauty of the mountain urges one on and scaling to the top, 5895sq km can be a challenge.

No matter who you are, you will enjoy the scene of Zebras, Giraffes, Gazelles, Impalas, Hartebeests, wildebeests grazing, Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, Jackals & Hyenas hunting, Monkeys and baboons grooming each other, Elephants roaming bush savannas and the rare and endangered rhino in their natural surroundings.

Leave the comfort of a house and camp in wilder places of incomparable beauty. Spend evenings around a fire & starlit nights in tents under trees, on the river banks, very close to the wild punctuated with the sounds of lions and hyenas or alternatively enjoy your holiday in hotels & Lodges of your choice while still exploring the wild or conveniently combine both camping & lodge experiences. Whether lodge or camping safari, your holiday with us will always remain a memorable part of your life.

  • Camping adventures

Get closer to the wild. Camping is not only a cheaper accommodation but also the most adventurous. Participating in pitching tents, (you don’t have to if you don’t want), and sitting around the fire-place together under the starlit sky, gives you a greater opportunity to interact with your crew and the rest of the group. Moreover, evenings spent at campfire, dinner under starlit sky and sleeping to the sounds of an African wilderness-often with sounds of Lions and hyenas from a distance leaves you with an experience that you will never forget to tell. Most of the camps are run and managed by the local communities and our experienced crew will make your adventure safe, and interesting.

Note: You reserve the right to choose whether to spend in hotels & lodges or in tented camps and tents. In both cases we do not compromise on comfort and/or safety. In this regard, all our itineraries have camping safari rates. Contact us for some of these itineraries and rates.

  • Lodge Safaris

View animals and scenery in the most comfortable way. Nights are spend in hotels, lodges or tented camps of your choice; whereas days are spend driving and watching animals and picturesque scenery. Our Knowledgeable driver guides will ensure that you get the best pictures of all you see for your souvenir. For sea lovers you relax on pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean, sunbathing, star gazing, and swimming. You too get a chance to visit the beautiful sea gardens, wind surf or water ski.

Try a honeymoon on the East African beaches, or if you are daring enough you can share it with the wild and you can be sure never to forget this special day of your life.

In both cases we do not compromise on comfort and/or safety. In this regard, all our itineraries have camping safari rates. Contact us for some of these itineraries and rates.

  • QUIET / LOW SEASON INCENTIVE TOURS

Largely appeal to travelers who want to avoid the tourist-high-season, the congestion in parks and camping areas, and travel in the tranquility that is only shared by the wild. In return they pay less, and get more. These seasons are from March to Mid-June and from October to Mid-December.

  • CYCLING SAFARIS

Biking Safaris: In Africa, Bicycles are an important means of transport. They help you access places a vehicle cannot. A very good alternative to walking since you cover a wilder area. This is very fascinating especially if the places visited are of scenic beauty, cultural importance and rich in wildlife.
